Case 1

Diagnosis (2)

Coeliac Disease

Coeliac disease is an intolerance to gluten in the diet, therefore you will not exhibit problems until after weaning (typically from 6 months of age as per WHO and NHS recommendations)

Investigations include:

- Screening: Tissue Transglutaminase antibodies & endomyseal antibodies (note: an exclusion diet will lead to a false negative result)

- Diagnosis: Small bowel biopsy to confirm subtotal villous atrophy

Treatment:

- Gluten free diet for life
