Beginning Treatment

  • Jessica has always been fit and well and is not on any regular medication, has no known drug allergies and is up-to-date with her immunisations.
  • She is her mother's third child and there is a paternal grandmother with Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Her heart rate is 90-100bpm, her breathing is noted to be heavy and her mouth is slightly dry. The examination is felt to be otherwise normal.

Her urine dipstick is repeated and a capillary blood gas performed; blood sugar is 36mmol/L
