Management

This is Archie's blood gas on the morning of presentation.


To summarise the history to date:

Archie is a 7-year-old boy with a 2 week history of excessive drinking and increased frequency of urination.

In the last week he has wet the bed 5 times.


He is otherwise a healthy boy and was born at term weighing 8lb 9oz.


There were some concerns about eye problems that have since resolved.


He is growing well and now weighs 30.25kg.


A paternal Grandfather had diabetes (type unknown) and his father has psoriasis


o/e: afebrile, HR:80-90, BP:107/70, RR: 18-24, 100% in air. PEWS = 0

Normal examination.


Urine dipstick in department shows Ketones: 15mg/dL (+) and Glucose 500mg/dL (++)
