Imagine making that diagnosis of Diabetes in a Paediatric patient, how will the parents and child feel when they discover that their life expectancy has dropped by 20 years? Inevitably, these figures are drawn from historical data looking at patients diagnosed in the 1930s, 40s and 50s; we would hope that with the use of more up-to-date insulins and better delivery devices and monitoring that longterm survival is better diagnosed with Type 1 disease today.
This is a life long condition with huge emotional, physical, medical and financial implications.
