After completing this workbook you should:
- Understand what Neonatal medicine includes
- Recognise the 'normal' newborn and what constitutes 'normal'physiology
- Understand the principles and practice behind the examination of the newborn
- Be able to explain different approaches to feeding and appropriately monitor growth
- Know the significance of jaundice and the important differential diagnoses for ‘early’ and 'prolonged' jaundice
- Be aware of the problems affecting newborn infants (common & serious), including prematurity and Group B strep infection
- Know of the various screening programs that exist for detecting conditions in newborns
