Freya has had temperatures associated with the swollen lymph node. She has had a recent coryzal illness. Her appetite is slightly reduced and she has been off school for the last 2 days.
She was born in the UK at term and there is no history of foreign travel. She is fully immunised and the family do not own any pets.
When the GP examines her he finds an enlarged, tender lymph node in the right posterior chain with some smaller lymph nodes also palpable in the neck. Although Freya is not complaining of pain at rest she does say that it hurts to have the lymph node palpated.
